Crackle nabs original drama series, Start Up, with Adam Brody, Martin Freeman

Adam Brody and Martin Freeman have been tapped to star in a new one-hour drama called Start Up, just picked up by Crackle, a Sony streaming service, reports Variety.

Hailing from Critical Content, formerly known as Relativity Television, the show looks at a trio of strangers who wind up incubating a brilliant-but-controversial tech idea. Described as not quite “fitting the mold of tech entrepreneurs,” the situation for the three quickly becomes dangerous, involving ties to a Haitian gang and a crooked FBI agent. So Silicon Valley meets Narcos, perhaps?

Eric Berger, General Manager of Crackle and Executive Vice President of Sony Pictures Television Digital Networks, says the program will “explore the motivations and complexities of creating a new venture, while walking a fine line between crime and legitimacy.”

Freeman will play the aforementioned agent, while Brody is in the role of a sharp boutique firm financier. The show is set in Miami, though filmed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It will also star Ed Gathegi (The Blacklist, Twilight) and newcomer Otmara Marrero, who had a small appearance on Graceland.

Freeman has had a long and successful acting career, most recently appearing in the TV series Sherlock and Fargo. He’s also, of course, well-known for playing Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings movies. In addition to this project, he’s been tapped to appear in the upcoming movie Captain America: Civil War.

Brody’s most notable role to date was in teen primetime drama, The O.C., where he played the goofy high-schooler Seth Cohen for the show’s four-season run in the early ‘00s. He has since, however, appeared in a number of TV series, including Burning Love, House of Lies, The League, and Billy & Billie. He will next appear on the big screen in the upcoming movie CHiPs.

This marks the second scripted one-hour drama Crackle has picked up. Previously, the streaming channel scored The Art of More, which has been renewed for its second season. That show stars Kate Bosworth, Dennis Quaid, and Cary Elwes, among others.

A female cop and a male cop walk next to each other.

After a few barren weekends at the theaters, three new movies are debuting on March 14. These include Novocaine, an action comedy starring Jack Quaid; Black Bag, a spy thriller with Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett; and Opus, a thriller featuring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich. If none of those titles interest you, check out Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17.
Those four movies should bring people out to the theaters. However, you can also stay home and watch a free movie on a FAST service. Our three recommendations include an award-winning musical, a 1990s comedy, and a thrilling crime drama.
We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.
West Side Story (1961)

Who knew that William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet would inspire one of the best musicals ever? After its run on Broadway, West Side Story was adapted into a musical film by directors Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. It's 1957 in New York City's Upper West Side. There is a turf war between two rival gangs: the Jets (the white Americans) and the Sharks (the Puerto Ricans).
During their battle for control, Jets co-founder Tony (Richard Beymer) and Maria (Natalie Wood), the younger sister of the Sharks' leader, fall in love. The star-crossed lovers grow closer, even as the rivalry intensifies in the streets. Between the magnificent dance numbers and iconic songs, West Side Story is an all-time classic and worthy Best Picture winner.

It’s true, Ted Lasso is returning for a fourth season
Three men cheer in Ted Lasso.

When Ted Lasso’s third season ended in May 2023, the main character had left his beloved AFC Richmond team in England and returned to the U.S. to be with his son, Henry. It was a fitting end for a series finale, which many assumed it was. Nearly two years later, series star Jason Sudeikis announced that Ted Lasso would return to Apple TV+ for a fourth season.

Speaking to the New Heights podcast (via The Radio Times), Sudeikis says the fourth installment will see his character coaching a women’s team. Whether that’s a soccer team in the U.S. or a football team in Europe remains to be seen. Even Sudeikis doesn’t know the stories for the fourth season or where those stories will be set.
