I feel weird. I fell asleep super early, woke up in time to set up my good gear and get some shots, was awake for a while doing that, woke early, was awake for a while, fell back asleep. Everything has fuzzy edges.

Tired been a long week. Hopefully be a good relaxing weekend.

 

I’ve been sitting on The Great Big Deck™, sipping Yorkshire tea and enjoying golden hour. I actually said to someone the sunset tonight was kinda dull. I should have known better.

First it went cotton-candy pink, then as the sun sunk low behind the horizon every cloud in the sky caught fire.

Back in Florida! After 5 weeks of visiting relatives in NYS, touristy shit in the Adirondacks, supporting wife through surgery in TN, packing and culling years of accumulation, finally driving all day yesterday, here I am.

So I’m sitting in the lanai, sipping the first cuppa Joe and planning the next few days, my daughters are visiting and derserve a good time. Maybe I’ll let the young ones hit the hot spots alone (they’re 60 & 62 yo).

 

When I was fired from the job (unjustly), my younger brother who still works there posted on the bulletin board and made a big fuss in my defense, saying how they did me wrong. He ended up speaking to someone from HR. Young guy who seemed down to Earth, my brother tells me. After speaking to him for a bit and my brother really laying it on thick, the guy says he'll try to speak to corporate. Maybe he can get it overturned but it's gotta be done at the corporate level. (Chances are it's not going to happen, but this is my last hope of returning)

Until I find something out, I don't wanna apply to a new job for a few reasons. If I am able to return to this previous job but have to wait 90 days, I'll just apply at some bullshit job that I won't feel guilty leaving after only a few months. But if it's 100% certain I am never going back to that job, I'll try harder to get a job at a local pharmaceutical company that's big here. I probably won't like it as much, but I'm at least hoping to get one of the 8 hour positions. I'm told it's "extremely boring", but 12 hour shift is a greater evil to me than "boring".


Reasons I liked the previous job:

1) Only 6 miles from home. Most of the rest around here are not going to be that close by.

2) Paid more than a lot of the other "joe jobs" in the area, and was a company who would often raise wages with inflation.

3) I loved the hours i worked. 4 ten hour shifts overnight. Thur-Sat nights off. With those hours AND being so close to home, it made it easy for me to do other things on some work days. I had a very comfortable work-life balance and routine that I was fairly happy with. And I actually liked working a couple extra hours in a shift in order to get a third day off. It was only ten hours. Which I can handle a lot better than 12, like some of the equivalent paying jobs around here want you to work daily.

4) There was lots of OT available when I needed it, but on the opposite hand, they also gave a lot of time off between PTO, UPT and vacation. I rarely used PTO til vacation, then just maxed both out. Twice a year. On occasion, with the UPT (if i had enough hours), I could just split an hour early for no reason, if I so chose. I didn't use unpaid time much, but it was nice to have if I just felt like saying "fuck it. I'm tired" some nights.

5) Because brother worked there also, and same shift, I carpooled half the time.


My brother says he'll call me when they tell him something Monday or Tuesday night. Til then I'm waiting. I've got enough in savings to last a little while.

Can't sleep. I've not heard back about the last ditch effort to keep the job, but it's most likely not happening.

I forgot to tell y’all I was pedaling my bike because I was watching Netflix. Anyway, I’m done now and took a shower.
