Joe's feeling a bit down, or grumpy I think. However, according to recent stat(matchdotcom) 20% of people meet online!
This is not a `small number'.

I have got a good read on some people, as I believe they are giving me a true acct of themselves, via pm or email. We get the occasional letdown, but this hasn't happened too often with me.
Tone cannot be read, a phone call ls better, of course.
If someone is within easy travel of another, I don't see why not some safe meeting can't be set up

 

I don't disagree that real life interaction is necessary. But think about this for a second. Personals adds have been around longer than the internet. People put them up, read them and respond to them. Not EVERY guy is looking for a quick fuck ( nor every woman, although I don't think I'd say no right now).
The other part to that is that some people ( myself included) may not be looking for more than a sexual relationship ( one nighter, casual fling, fuck buddy...) because they don't have the time or the desire to be in a full fledged relationship. Circumstance has a lot to do with it, and everyone's circumstance is different. The internet, in my lowly opinion, just broadens the horizon a bit. Not to say there is no abuse, lying and cheating going on, just that I think there's a lot of human nature involved.

Match.com says that 20% of people meet online. I wonder why an online dating site would say such a thing.




That 20% statistic is great news to the producers of Cops, Judge Judy, and Jerry Springer. It means that they'll never run out of people to have on their shows.

Ok,maybe frustrated would be a better word, I saw the OP, nothing new, I empathize to a degree.
A whizz bang, or relationship, take your pick, both are fine.

The dating site made a general statement, and its good for business, no mystery, seems self explanatory.
Whose point was it about going out to meet women?, good too, if you can get to the right environments,
Its more difficult for some of us, esp those that live in small towns like me.
So excuse me if we like to keep more options open for us, than heading off to some bar where the patrons are mostly 20 years or more younger than ourselves.

And you know that it's going to be a humdinger of a show when you have an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend on the show and one of them says, "We met online."

 

There's something about how mean she can be that kinda tickles my fancy in a way...she seems to read people well and her sarcasm...just love it!

I moved back home for a year, from a place that wasn't even a town, but had a town name (138 ppl)
Home is a town of 5000 that grows to 40,000 + in the summer and everyone pretty much knows everyone that's actually full time local. It was easier to "hook up" there ( for me) than it is here in Tucson. Not a huge city, but big enough and crazy enough to make me think twice about going out to a bar to find a "hook up". Maybe it's my age, maybe it's the "danger of the unknown" that keeps me away from that kind of scene. I work a lot too, so I don't have the time or desire to "hang out". Online I can meet ppl and strike up conversations and rapport at their and my leisure without trying to cram time in public into my schedule...

I go to a grocery store, buy a copy of a women's magazine with an article in it telling women where to go to find guys, bring it home, and read it.

Then I go to where I'm supposed to be at.

I met my best lady friend online through one of "these dating sites" that you speak so poorly of. Granted we are not dating, we did but it didn't work out. I'm just not the dating type, but we have a wonderful friends with benefits relationship and a great best friendship.

Many people meet online.

We are not all ANONYMOUS people on the other side of a machine, that is the problem with most people today with their attitudes of the internet. Too many seem to think the Internet is only when your "online". They haven't yet realized that IRL and the net are one in the same and effect your daily life.

The Internet doesn't stop effecting you just because you turned the computer or modem off.

Most also seem to forget that behind that Ip address is a real person with feelings and emotions.

Your "Internet" friends are JUST AS important as your IRL friends. They require attention, love, etc. just as much as your IRL friend's.

This mindset really pisses me off.

 

analsexman, I'm not going to quote you, since you and I are, in a way, of the same opinion. General Discussion doesn't always equal civil discourse here and opinions differ but I think the general thread is a good point of discussion. There are a LOT of socks here and going for the gold could cause someone a lot of heartache amongst other "aches". Joe's got a point. So do you and I. I think that sometimes good things happen and sometimes it turns out to be all wrong, when going the way of "personals". A little etiquette can go a long way when it comes to "on line dating" and there are lots of factors that make the equation complicated. Lucky you, you found something good. Others may not and become disillusioned or dissuaded from going this route. Again, X=human nature...just sayin...

I think that I was confusing two different things. IMO there's a difference between first meeting someone online and then getting to know them in person...and trying to "hook up" on the internet.

You and I agree more than you think. The problem with the internet is also the best thing about it. It's anonymous. It causes one to say and do things that they would never say or do in real life.

People should treat each other like human beings...both online and off. The sad thing is that---many times---they don't.

 

Yep...Cosmo has hot chix...so does Marie Claire....my sister reads them constantly. I tend to pick up the auto trader more than the chick rags though. Guess I won't be finding you out at that trendy spot anytime soon, but if you happen to stop by a mechanic or a monster truck show, tractor pull or a Nappa Auto Parts store we may run into each other

I'll have you know, sir, that I've never ever stepped foot into a bar to drink...or to meet women. I don't drink and I much prefer my women to have actual class and self-respect.
