Why? Does it make you feel empowered because you can so freely admit that non-existence cannot be proved? Do you feel cleverer because you're so 'accepting' of the inherent shortcomings of the atheist position?

The question is not why such prohibitions were put in the Bible originally...the question is, why do some people still adhere to them? They transformed reasonably sound advice from thousands of years ago into a dogmatic ritual that allows them to identify with a particular religious sect.

 

No because when someone is in an impossible position, they still try to adapt, sometimes it amusing, sometimes it is enlightening and it is almost always worth the time. (Besides with some Americans I have asked [they live in OZ] they don't offer any reason for belief, they have no reason [and they don't wish to expand themselves either] and in most times that very linear logic just seems to be something passed on)

The single best and most enlightening conversation and where I found interest in this is where a man openly admitted his belief could not exist, and when I question him why he believes he said because he allows himself to and when he does that he can see the proof and evidence in gods creation. We had a long talk after that told me he didn't believe the a lot of what was in the bible and said he doesn't believe people when they say they have a message from god because god if he had a message he could tell him. He believed god gives his message, proves his belief and rewards his belief in everything around him. Very honest and believed everything he said, of course he was a outlier most are much more because he exists and your going to hell.

They remained dogma because people have continued to be ignorant in the face of scientific progress, and I think that's unforgivable. I don't know of any sensible Christian who doesn't eat shellfish, and I imagine that once Islam catches up [in temporal terms] then the reasonable-minded adherents will ignore many of the more culturally irrelevant prohibitions as well.

After all, prohibiting extra-marital sex had very real benefits; in the time it was instituted, women had not the means to support themselves without the help of a husband. Prohibiting extra-marital sex ensured that children would not be born out of wedlock and thus disadvantaged. Of course, it was then used as a form of repression but now, in enlightened times and with the empowerment of women, most reasonable Christians have, at most, a concern that is based on the irresponsibility of youth rather than a Biblical precedent.

I do not know enough about the Muslim faith to have anything to troll about. I tried reading the Qur'an but could only find letter-for-letter translations to English. But from what I have heard the average muslim is much nicer than the average American god-fearing christian.

Tone down your arrogant approach and maybe you'll find some personal enlightenment in this activity of yours. You also need some work on the your own logical inconsistencies regarding atheism, and I doubt you're going to get an intellectual workout in a place propped up by dogma.
